June 2011 – Article in Times of India
An article was published in Times of India, a news daily in India, about the work which has been done by JP Research, and some of the findings coming out of the research conducted on National Highways in Tamil Nadu. The article titled "Flawed road design is another obstacle" can be Viewed Here.
January 2011 : SIAT Conference and Expo
Company president Ms. Jeya Padmanaban was invited to give a keynote speech at the 2011 SIAT conference. Her presentation, “Safety, Is It Green?”, emphasized that “green” vehicles must be good not only for the environment but for their occupants and others who may be involved in road crashes with them.
May 2010: SAFE Convention-a SIAM initiative, Chandigarh
JP Research India gave a presentation on “Crash Investigation and In-depth Accident Data Collection at the SAFE convention held on 5th May 2010 in Chandigarh.
March 2010: First Meeting of the CII Core Group on Road Safety
JP Research India attended the First Meeting of the Core Group on “Road Safety” held on 24th March 2010 in Gurgaon. The main objective of the Core Group was to come out with a Vision Document & a Roadmap on “Road Safety” and explore the scope for “Public Private Partnership”.
March 2010: Workshop on “Road Traffic Accidents and Safety Measures with BLS, ARAI
The highlight of JP Research India's attendance at the two day workshop on “Road Traffic Accidents and Safety Measures with BLS” at ARAI, Pune on 12th & 13th March 2010 was having company president Ms.Jeya Padmanaban be invited to Chair the panel discussion on “Challenges in Helmets, Seats, Seat belts, Airbags and Collapsible Steering for Safety”.
December 2009: 2009 SAE India Mobility Congress
JP Research India's participation in the three-day SAE Mobility congress held in Chennai included presenting a paper on "Analysis of Road Traffic Accidents on NH 45 (Kanchipuram District) ", based on our 45-day crash investigation study on the NH45. JP Research also presented a poster on "Analysis of Truck Accidents on NH45 and the Urgent Need for In-depth Truck Accident Data Collection on National Highways."
October 2009: IRF India Regional Conference
JP Research India gave a presentation on “Accident Recording & Crash Investigation” at the 4th IRF India Regional Conference on Accident Prevention: Road Safety Measures, held on 23-24th October 2009 in New Delhi.
September 2009: International Road Traffic and Accident Database (IRTAD conference)
JP Research India participated in the 4th IRTAD conference on 16-17th September 2009 held in Seoul, South Korea, where we presented a poster on “Analysis of Road Traffic Accidents on NH45, Kanchipuram District (Tamil Nadu, India).
June 2009: Seminar at the National Conference on Road Safety and Best Practices
By special invitation, JP Research India gave a seminar on “Accident Analysis” at the National conference on Road Safety and Best Practices, organized by the All India Federation of Motor Vehicles Department Technical Executive Officers Association, at Pune on 13-14 June 2009. Greg Statder, Senior Crash Investigator, gave the presentation, which was attended by transport officials from across the country.
May 2009: JP Research Article in Tamil Nadu Police’s E-Traffic Mag
An article based on traffic accident research project conducted on the NH45 by a JP Research India team (with the support and appreciation of the Tamil Nadu Police) was published in the June 2009 issue of E-Traffic Mag, a monthly publication of the Tamil Nadu Police- State Traffic Planning Cell.
January 2009: Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT 2009)
JP Research India attended the SIAT expo organized at ARAI, Pune on 21-24 January 2009 and presented a paper on “Accident Data Collection Methodology for Building a Traffic Accident Database for Tamil Nadu (India)”, explaining the methodologies involved in traffic accident research. Our stall at the SIAT EXPO also received a fabulous response, especially from students and young engineers.
December 2008: Pedestrian Infrastructure Rating System
JP Research India developed a novel rating system to measure how safe India’s city roads are for pedestrians. The rating system has two categories: Pedestrian Risk of Exposure to Traffic and Pedestrian Risk of Injury Due to Traffic.

December 2007: Biomechanics, Vehicle Safety and Accident Analysis
A seminar on “Biomechanics, Vehicle Safety and Accident analysis” was jointly conducted by JP Research India and the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) on 4-5 December 2007 in Pune, Maharashtra. The seminar was attended by representatives from auto and insurance sectors, local transport authorities and medical sectors. World-renowned speakers Dr. Murray Mackay, Dr. Ahamedali Hassan, Ms. Elaine Wodzin and Ms. Jeya Padmanaban spoke on a wide range of topics. Dr. Hassan taught participants to calculate and code collision deformation and investigate a crashed vehicle.
August 2006: Road Safety – Miles to Go Before We Sleep?
JP Research India held its first automotive safety seminar, “Road Safety – Miles to Go Before We Sleep?”, on 11 August 2006 at GRT Temple Bay in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Featured speakers were Ms. Jeya Padmanaban and Mr. Jeffrey A. Pike. The seminar covered introduction to biomechanics, accident data analysis and crash testing.
Key JP Research India Projects
Coimbatore Project – Phase2 (2010)
For this large on-site crash investigation and data analysis project, JP Research India researchers are examining and documenting details of traffic accident occurrence on national highways districtwide. Project includes providing training in onsite investigation/coding and vehicle examination techniques.
Coimbatore Project – Phase1 (2009)
A 60-day crash investigation study was conducted on four different national highways (NH 47, NH 47 bypass, NH 67, NH 209) passing through Coimbatore. A total of 44 accidents involving a wide variety of vehicles were examined. The injury records of the crash victims were obtained and coded using AIS and ICD 10 to determine the injury severity caused due to the accidents.
NH45 Study (2008)
A 45-day crash investigation study was conducted on a 75-km stretch of NH45 passing between Otteri and Acharapakkam. This project was conducted with the support and co-operation of Tamil Nadu Police. The JP Research team examined 32 accidents during this period, including 18 accidents involving heavy trucks.
Passenger Car Crash Analysis in Chennai City (2008)
JP Research India, with the cooperation of insurance companies, studied and collected accident-related data from total loss insurance cases and from other information provided by the insurers.
